The Leningrad Region awarded the "Exporters of the Year". Where will they export to in 2022?

This year, there were 24 nominees in the regional stage of the competition – small and medium-sized businesses in the Leningrad region. As a result of the work in 2021, seven regional companies received awards.

Manufacturers of polymer resins, foam polymer insulation materials, animal feed, food, furniture, and in the field of high technology, VR have successfully exported. The partner of the competition, the Center for Foreign Economic Activity 360, awarded a special prize to the manufacturer of metal products Roltek.

The meeting of foreign trade market practitioners is a good opportunity to discuss problematic issues in today's economic conditions. The general mood is to make use of the window of opportunity. Today, some markets are closed and exports to the European Union are limited, but the Middle East, Asia, and Africa are open. We collected the opinions of the participants.

Vera Shtokailo, General Director of the Leningrad Region Industrial Development Center:

Of course, this year, in the changed economic conditions, we are noticing interest not so much in the competition as in the very essence of export activities. Companies are now primarily interested in how and where to export, how to build logistics chains and payment systems.

Elena Ulyanova, Deputy Director of Foreign Trade Operations at the Center for Foreign Economic Activity 360:
I am convinced that companies should have a separate person on staff who will monitor all legislative and sanctions changes so that they can respond promptly. The most valuable thing is information. Today, a large number of companies are reorienting to the East, India. But it all depends on the product, we have the opportunity to find solutions and see where the exporter should go.

Matvey Rammo, General Director of polymer resin manufacturer Attika Group:

We are interested in the markets of North Africa, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Olga Mikhno, Head of Production, TD Energon RUS, manufacturer of sugar-free candies:

We were focused on exporting to Europe, we wanted to compete with Chinese goods. The current destinations are Armenia, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. In addition, there is a very high demand in the Russian market.

Igor Koltsov, Head of Sales Department, Tosnensky Feed Mill:

The demand for our products in Europe has not decreased, but increased. As a grain processor and feed producer, we are interesting to our partners. There are two main problems now. This is a logistics problem: freight traffic has dropped, and new logistics chains are needed. It is unprofitable to transport mixed feed thousands of kilometers away, and in another direction — feed for aquaculture — we are working on the issue of supplies to Kyrgyzstan. The second is the issue of making payments.

Alexey Avdeev, Head of the Regional Sales Department of JSC Syassky CBK:

The problems are being solved. We mainly export industrial products, the volume depends on market conditions — about 30%. We are trying to trade with China in yuan, and we are expanding this area.
